Maxion Design was founded by Cynthia Maxion, an interior designer and artist.
Cynthia graduated from San Diego State University in 1972 and worked for an architectural firm in New York City. In 1967, she embarked on an exciting adventure as an artist on an oceanographic expedition to Honduras.
Her first commission, for Summa Corporation, launched the Maxion Design firm in 1976. The legendary Howard Hughes, who wanted murals painted at Hughes Executive Airport in Las Vegas, owned Summa. She stayed briefly in Las Vegas, creating murals for the Star Dust, Aladen, and Dunes hotels.
In 1977, Maxion relocated her firm to San Francisco where she gathered an outstanding group of muralists and interior designers. Together, their innovative artistry created more than 1,000 murals and the interior design of more than 200 buildings including the Hilton Hotel in California, F.A.O. Schwartz in New York City, Latitudes Fitness in India, and Bodyfit in Canada. In 1992 Cynthia had a son, Jaron, and moved back to San Diego to be near family. In San Diego she found additional experienced architects, graphic designers, artists and interior designers to work with. With the advancement of computer technology Maxion Design launched a line of large scale digital artwork.
